For decades a diverse range of ships have entered the ramp at SSN’s shiprecycling yard, some even more special than others. Early November 2018 there was again such a moment. After weeks of preparing to lighten the ship as much as possible for the ramp, the seagoing tug ‘President Hubert’ from the company Boskalis was pulled in for recycling.
Mid 2018 we already presented a video about the preparation and pulling process of a ship (link), a job which normally takes a day, or in some cases a few days. Now we will focus on the actual demolition and recycling of a ship.
The demolition of the ship took several weeks. That is why we recorded the process in a time lapse video. Because the President Hubert was a big seagoing tug, at the time of writing the remaining parts still have to be processed. Because of the robust build of the ship the stern section of the ship has to be cut manually and professionally to be scrapped. Yet we could not wait any longer to share this interesting video.
